Online Photo Storage | Store and Share Your Photos Online

Online Photo Storage allows you to store your digital images online

Online Photo Storage Tips

Edited from WSJ Feb. 01/2006:

Online photo storage sites
have proliferated in recent years, many of them offering "free" and "unlimited" photo archiving.

But the online photo storage sites are increasingly determined to make money in other ways -- and some users may not realize their photos are at risk. Many are requiring users to purchase products, charging other fees, or setting conditions to ensure that customers gaze at ads. If users don't follow the conditions for service -- often disclosed only in the fine print -- their photographs could wind up getting deleted....

Online Photo Storage Safety

To ensure that pictures don't vanish unexpectedly, almost all the online photo storage services advise customers to keep their own back-ups on CDs or DVDs. A photographer who has pictures stored on a computer hard drive, a back-up disk and a paid online service that bills his credit card regularly has a high likelihood of being able to recover from any disaster.

Online photo storage and sharing is restrictive and not as secure as they are often promoted to be. Most online photo storage services operate on a model that tightly restricts the use of the service. Forget to login, or in some cases, make a purchase, and your account and your photos will be deleted. If a loved one becomes incapacitated or passes away, it can be impossible to retrieve their photos from the service.

You must read the small print when you sign up for an online photo storage service - AND copy your images onto a CD or DVD.
